Description of the Problem

You are trying to open a set of e-mail folders in Microsoft Outlook that have a .PST extension. This .PST file has opened before. Now, however, you are receiving a message indicated that the file is damaged or incorrect. You have tried running a repair tool on the file, and no problems were found with it. You have tried deleting the PST from the user's profile and re-adding it, or deleting and re-creating the Outlook profile. If you copy the PST file to another computer, however, it opens perfectly.

Workaround

If you can confirm that the .PST file is valid by opening it on another computer, simply rename it and try opening it again on the computer where you wish to use it. For example, you could change the name from "john@Smith.com.pst" to "john.pst." This is frequently the only action required to solve the problem of .PST files that Outlook will not open.
